Scarlet Spider is Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker who first appeared during one of the most notoriously convoluted and editorially fraught sagas of Spider-Man's history. I've read about it several times and I'm still confused.
Let's focus on what we know: it's a really cool character design. Red bodysuit, blue hoodie and the trademark spidey-eyes. Very simple, but effective and makes him stand out even among the small spider-verse I seem to be assembling.
Sculpt-wise, he may be the most dynamic Web Warrior, and that's saying something. Literally in mid-air, with his webs about to launch a piece of broken masonry, there's a lot of energy going on here, and I only pray the plastic holds.
Painting-wise, we're looking at the same red (Khorne Red, Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet) and blue (Kantor Blue, Caledor Sky, Caledor Sky/Ulthuan Grey) colours that the rest of the Spider-folk have. The advantage here is that there is no webbing to work around, so I didn't lose my mind this time.
On the table, in keeping with usual Web Warrior tricks, he seems very keen on throwing characters, pushing or otherwise displacing enemy characters, so I think he's a fun addition to the squad.
I do wonder if Spectacular Spider-Man might get the job done just as well, and for 1 Threat less, but that's clones for you. Always a photocopy of a photocopy.
