EXT: Derelict Research Station

Rounding off my terrain season (thank the gods!), here's a full set of pics of the stuff from TTCombat that I've done.

Building C, as is the one above. They all come from the Sci-fi Utopia range, I've named the kits in the captions. Most of them came from the bulk deal, only the guard tower was separate.

Not much to say about them, really - great terrain, very affordable and extremely easy to paint.  The laser scoring in the wood means that a single layer of paint is quite enough to give colour and still show the details. It's only if you want texture that you need to add washes, stippling and so on, although I find that's a quick and enjoyably messy process.

Building B

There's not much in the way of extra effects to talk about. The windows are clear plastic scored with a craft knife and glued to the inside of the frames. Any warning signs are paper printouts glued on with PVA, and the jungle lichens are pretty obvious.

Small stairs from the modular walkways kit

Tall walkways. I left some of the railings loose so I can swap them about into various configurations.

The only bit I feel was particularly creative was the vines on this walkway - that's garden string soaked in a mixture of green paint and PVA, then wound round the model and left to dry. Quick, pretty tough and does the job!

Building A
Objective Room

Whilst snapping pics for this lot, I found the water tank I made last year was rather badly chipped. No varnish! And actually, now I came to look at it, I hadn't finished the rust and water effects. So I quickly did that, and here's the finished piece.

It's pretty obviously an old gum box. I knocked it out as an objective marker originally, but it's a bit too big for that. Good scatter, although I perhaps ought to change the base to something flatter.

I would very happily add more to this base in time. The landing pad, for example, and maybe some defensive turrets, or a power plant and chemical storage pods? But there's no rush. Err, and not much room in the cupboard, either, really, so I'll have to see. It's already a good half-table's worth, with plenty of LOS blockage. And all the nice scatter that you get as bonus material in the kits.

Besides - I've got three entire tabletops' worth of scenery now, covering three different biomes. But I've only got two armies. Imperium and Xenos are covered, and both at a point where I'd happily call them complete (although I'm happy to carry on occasionally adding to them). So what does that leave me?

  1. Looking good! The moss and lichen really help take them above and beyond here, as well as letting them tie in with your jungle terrain.
