INT: Hive Security Station

Alongside the Outriders, I did a bit of scenery painting.

This is one of the plastic Necromunda tiles I chopped up earlier in the year. The plan is to make several terrain tiles, each with some kind of diorama-style background idea, and although I did a lot of the building and undercoating a few months back, they've been on the back burner for a while. Good to get them underway!

This first one is some kind of field generator, protecting an access tunnel. It's half a tile with a bit of bulkhead down the middle, then a controller mocked up from bits of a servohauler, and the field projectors made from objective markers.

Lots of washes with rust effects, was basically the painting process here. The basecoat was black, then a lighter spray of rusty brown, and a few tiny splotches of silver metal from a nearly empty can. That all got hit with a little bit of everything from my rust powder and washes collection, after I'd done the hazard stripes.

Very simple after that - sponged on some lighter metal colour on the edges, then picked out whatever details I could find in mostly muted colours, and kept going back with more rust paints until it all looked old enough.

The dead guy is from Archon's Dungeons and Lasers stuff, a neat objective marker or set dresser. He's either got his windpipe dangling out of his mouth or some kind of awful parasite is nesting in his corpse. Pretty gross either way, you're going to want to wipe your feet after going through the field.

Another bit from the same kit is this lovely vending machine! Really enjoyed painting it, lots of fun to be had on the broken glass and the contents. There's a final detail still to come for it, the paint job didn't quite go as planned and needs a little more work.

I'll be coming back to this stuff next year, there's four more tiles ready for paint and a lot of bulkheads, props and decor. It's already making me want to play Necromunda again, though!

  1. I love it! The weathering effects are awesome! I can't imagine what you're not happy with on the vending machine - it really looks great

    1. Oh, I'm very happy with this bit. But there's an add-on that needed work!
