The Path To Enlightenment

More Tzaangors? Don't worry, these are the last of them. For now.

Tzaangor Enlightened from Warhammer 40k, Thousand Sons or Tzaangor Skyfires from Age of Sigmar, Disciples of Tzeentch.

Pew pew! ... caw caw!

When a Tzaangor has been a good Tzaangor, it gets rewarded with a disc to fly around on and a new coat of feathers. For a nippy and versatile unit, these Enlightened are still excellent value in the game.

Perversely, makes them poor monetary value in the real world - £20 for a 50pt unit? Good thing they're so pretty. And you certainly get your money's worth in painting time.

With so many pieces to mix and match, there's no excuse for having duplicate models. And it helps that the alternate spear-armed Enlightened have different heads to swap in.

hmm ... maybe I could use some spear-armed Enlightened...

These have the same colour scheme as my existing three Enlightened:

  • Horns, hooves and claws: Zandri dust base, Agrax Earthshade wash, Zandri dust drybrush
  • Claws and beaks: Averland Sunset base (wet-blended), Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Feathers: Calgar Blue base, Drakenhof Nightshade wash, Lothern Blue drybrush
  • Dreadlock/tentacles: Druchii Violet wash,
  • Cloth kilts: Celestial Grey base, Drakenhof Nightshade wash, Ulthuan Grey layering
  • Armour and shields: Retributor Armour base, Reikland Flesh wash, Golden Griffon drybrush, Ahriman Blue layer
  • Bows: Celestra Grey base, Hexwraith Flame wash, Nihilakh Oxide wash

The Aviarch champion actually looks grander than the proper model, what with his big hat and magic wand. In fact, if one were so inclined to kitbash a Tzaangor Shaman and didn't feel like mutilating a Dark Elf to do it, you couldn't go wrong with this guy.

So that's the whole unit. They never take quite as long as I fear, although I paint them with magnets and sub-assemblies (otherwise I'd never get any detail on the discs), so it always feels like I'm getting nowhere - and then hey, presto! - the unit is finished!

And here are the aforementioned discs. You'll never see any of this detail when there's a Tzaangor standing on top, but at least I will know.

All put together, I have eight Enlightened. I'm thinking two units of four would be the best way to run them as harassers and not worry about footprint or morale.

I am, of course, running the risk of Tzeentch's displeasure by not running them as nine, but I have no choice - the Shaman nicked my final disc.

  1. Those Discs are pretty awesome. Shame they're usually going to be obscured by the dudes on top of them. Who do also look pretty great in their own right, but the Discs were the real eye-catcher for me here.

    1. Yes, I haven't even shown the undersides, but the Discs are ridiculously detailed.

    2. They could ride on them sideways, like something out of one of Ezekiel's prophesies?

    3. Maybe the Discs should ride the Tzaangors?
