A body of water, left still, inevitably rots.
Impurity and then decay thrive in stagnation. It is a law of nature, observable in any closed system. Order becomes chaos over time, thermodynamically as well as socially and morally. Complexity reverts, certainty turns to doubt, the hard core of our body politic becomes weak and soft.
How then do we avoid this degeneration? Can we, to any meaningful degree? That is the key question my Ordo seeks to answer. Insofar as an answer exists, we believe we have one.
Change renews us. As current to swim against is all the still pools require in order to avoid turpitude, so in the wider affairs of the Imperium. It is thought that an Inquisitor's lot is to exterminate heresy, and so it is to an extent. I do not presume to think that this can ever be a final solution, or in fact a possible one. Heresy will always exist. It must, it is a part of the way of the universe.
My job is not to rid us of it. It is to see to it that it never triumphs. Chaos undoes itself. Xenos, with their decadence, simplicity or delusional thinking, can never remove or replace the glorious Imperium. The Emperor protects us too well.
Instead, their grinding attempts to bring us down shall be the very whetstone we use to overthrow them.
You are perhaps unconvinced. You have seen too often other Radicals brought low by their tinkering with alien devices or corrupted by the whispers of the forbidden void. I shall not descend into such idiocy, but nor shall I deny its power. Instead, I shall divert the energies of our foes and send them back against themselves thricefold. By their own hands they shall perish, and we shall be remade stronger, invigorated, by the process.
The Jimulthuan Quadrant shall serve as my object lesson. Mark it well.
Inquisitor Quolth Vodiis, his journal.
Late in M41, a number of enemy actions were observed in the linked systems of the Jimulthuan Quadrant.
A) A large chaos fleet, in reality a number of fragmentary warbands operating under a temporary alliance, assaulted the Alebus System. Simultaneously, several heretical cult uprisings occurred within the system. Although the local Ministorum forces were well-versed in putting down the easily-influenced populace in their frequent uprisings, the additional Traitor forces required full deployment of a Adepta Sororitas convent.
B) Hive Fleet Afanc, diverted from its previous assault on Drawbridge, made planetfall in the Rylstone system. Later investigation proved that it had been drawn there by Drukharii Raiders, who had deliberately sown Tyrannic genetic material on some of the outlying moons in the system. Rylstone II took the brunt of the early assaults, a recruiting world of the Crypt Angels guarded by the 84th-87th Tempestus Reliants.
C) The dormant power struggle on Bagot Prime between Ultramarine elements originally deployed to defeat an Ork Waargh and a sect of Plague Marines secretly ensconced in a hidden fortress on the eastern landmass erupted into full-blown war almost without warning. An Epistolary commanding the loyalist forces had located the enemy stronghold and was determined to destroy it, perhaps hoping to finally end his tour of duty on the world and rejoin his Chapter elsewhere.
These three actions were to prove the initial steps that plunged the entire subsystem into a decades-long campaign of terror and violence.

Our Inquisitor is a Recongregator! My favourite!
