With a whiff of brimstone, he's here!
(side-note: in the original sketches for Nightcrawler, the artist is at pains to emphasise that Nightcrawler's prehensile tail is at the base of his spine - "it does not come out of his ass!")
Painting-wise, the trick was to suggest the blue-black nature of his uniform, which involved Kantor Blue layered over Chaos Black, and then Nuln Oil washes. The red and white touches were simple enough, and give a really distinctive look to his uniform (as if he needs it with only three digits on each hand/foot!).
For his signature puff of teleportation smoke, I went back to Doomfire Magenta once more, then mixed a blend of Doomfire Magenta and Black Legion contrast to darken the edges of the smoke.
Speaking of his signature move, the kit also provided the option for a 'BAMF!" sound effect. It's cool, but I passed on it - there are other characters who break the fourth wall (like Deadpool and Spider-Ham) who could get away with it, but it doesn't suit Nightcrawler (and more than I'd want 'Snikt!' on Wolverine).
The sprue also provided the option to arm Nightcrawler with a pair of cutlasses, which plays nicely into his Errol Flynn fixation, but distracted from the simple elegance of this teleporting deamon. It's a shame they didn't have room for an alternate head sculpt, as this one looks quite serious, and a sharp-toothed grin would have been nice.
Until next time, Mein Freund!
