The Prince of Lies! (there's a lot of it about, apparently)
A brief departure from X-Men (although he does count as an X-Villain) - I realised I've never given this chap his day in the sun.
This is the second version of Loki that has been released. The first one is closer to the movie version and a threat level lower (although he can take an Infinity Gem to compensate). This one is much more comic-book flamboyant, comes with a leadership ability and, if anything, is even more mischievous on the tabletop.
I originally painted him up to be a splash character in the Weapon X team I took to an event, where he stole the show a few times. Having seen him in action as the leader of Asgard, he's even more dastardly. Being able to hoover up power from his teammates, which he can turn into chip damage whenever opponents roll skulls is the least of it. Utter menace. Marvellous.
Now the compliments are out of the way, he was a fairly anxiety-inducing model to paint. That flamboyant cloak flaps just high enough that you can see the back of his legs, which need proper painting. But the only way to give give your brush access is to keep him off his base. Which means you're trying to layer the underside of his cape while the only contact points are the fragile horns, trident or energy blast.
That said, now it's all done, I think he looks quite splendid. It was the usual trick with the yellow (Averland Sunset, Cassandora Yellow, Averland Sunset, Yriel Yellow, Flash Gitz Yellow), although I added more diluted layers of yellow to get the cloak really smooth. The body was Warpstone Glow layered with Moot Green.
While I did use Retributor Armour for the metallics, I also used Cygor Brown and Agrax Earthshade to suggest a non-metallic metal (even though I was using a metallic metal - it made sense at the time).
And the best news - purchasing this single model meant I get three bonus Asgardians for free!
