Saving The Beast 'Till Last

My final X-Man. Disconcerting, yet provocative!

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Beast

I don't remember when I first saw Beast, but he left a lasting impression. Dr McCoy (not that one) was an original member, who has gone through a number of mutations into various stages of hairy animalism, and even a mad scientist villain arc.

Beast even put in a substantial shift as an Avenger too, and I can see why creatives like him. For writers, he brings an irreverent humour and distinctive speaking style; for artists, he looks like a fun character to draw and pose. The funny thing is that, in-universe, he's nothing special. Among the other superheroes, he's not the most athletic, strong or durable. Even as a mere PhD, he's inferior to polymath team-mates like Hank Pym or Tony Stark, so was often overlooked for science stuff.

For the model itself, I expected a lot of blue, but he'd also need a level of fur effect that drybrushing wasn't going to accomplish. I began with a base of Kantor Blue, then a wash of Druchii Violet (surprised me too). Then is was very fine lines of Macragge Blue, Caledor Sky and Caledor Sky/Ulthuan Grey. Which was time-consuming, but quite enjoyable.

The sculpt comes with two head choices (the other one is wearing googles that I assume are meant to be reading glassed) and two left hands (the other one is just a closed fist). Having chosen the book option, I decided Hank would be reading 'Origin of the Species', which was not the easiest to freehand on the cover. The inside was just decal text from Sisters of Battle (which, now I think on it, is probably heresy).

And with this, my X-Men affiliation is finished (for now). Only six weeks past my 2025 deadline - oh, my stars and garters!
