Onwards, to victory!
Flawless Blades are the next batch on the table. The evil equivalent of Bladeguard veterans, these stylish posers are very hard hitting melee specialists. Their special rule is great - they can activate their daemon blissblades to get extra wounding power, but if they fail to kill anything the daemons get crotchety and eat them instead. Ha!
These first few are not the actual models, as you've doubtless noticed already. They are half-breeds with Slaangor Fiendbloods, which are fantastic models, slender minotaur-men dripping with spiky tights and jewelled bangles.
Swapping out their heads and arms (most of them, anyway) makes them super weird looking. In the right way, the HP-Lovecraft-Ate-Too-Much-Cheese-Before-Bedtime way, I hasten to add. Very thin ankles, though, they'll need handling with care.
The official models are also crackers. Their massive overconfidence is writ large, and whilst it's also quite possibly their weakness, I wouldn't want to get close enough to find out.
The swords were fun to paint, I had a go at a wootz steel effect. This was an elaborate process involving gloss paint, colourshift tropical green and far too long with a tiny brush and the black ink. It's obviously far too crude to look realistic (the stripes would have to be tiny), but it made for a nice change from power weapons or energy glows, and I might come back to it later.
Yes, I painted a nipple in there. Yes, it follows you round the room. No, I'm not sorry. |
Leading them is the character for the week - it's Lucius the Eternal.
Nice model! His whip is nuts, held up by a tiny length of rebar of all things (just in front of that crushed Iron Hands marine). Plenty of straps and buckles, and a whole row of funky liquid jars. Way more detail than the old lead one, and better proportions too. He's a beast on the table, but I rather miss the fact that he doesn't resurrect himself out of whoever kills him in melee anymore. Cool rule and fluff, although clearly a bit miserable to happen on the table!
No prizes for guessing what's left - it's all the Noise Marines...
