...and Underarmed. |
There may come a day when I catch up with the Necromunda release schedule. Equipped with an official WYSYWIG one-of-everything, I will finally be able to hang up my brushes and sleep, quite possibly in a plastic GW mausoleum kit. That day is not today, but it is a step in the right direction - Slave Ogryn gang!

I for one welcome our new Ogrelords |
These absolute lookers were initially released as a full box of six. That was obviously much too good value - a fully functioning gang with all the options? In one box? For the price of eight cups of Starbucks coffee? No no, said GW, if they'll buy six for forty quid, they'll buy two for more or less the same price. Quick! Fetch the price gun!

Not lacking in Ogravitas |
Muggins here missed that boat, as with the equally lovely Underhive Scum box. Through means I shall leave deliberately vague, I have obtained that original full gang of six without paying triple the price. That's right - I got a complete Ogre haul.

Oooooooooooooo Grehoma, every night my honey lamb and I
|
Anyhow! Griping about not being able to buy every last little war dolly I want aside, they are typically lovely. They are a bit monopose, though, so I got to bits-boxing. My GSC army has left me with an excellent supply of industrial equipment spares, so some of that has gone on. The wrecking ball is a DnL column topper supplemented with milliput, otherwise everything is straight kit.

Somewhere Ogre the Rainbow |
Orange, black and white for the colour scheme. I was very taken with those Emperor's Scythe marines from the Astartes 2 trailer - these chaps aren't quite that bold, but that's the direction I was heading in. Factory new mooks in shiny sci-fi kit, at any rate, fresh from the lobotomiser.
 |
Ogre Achiever |
They're painted just ahead of their debut! There's a KnockRat Qualifier coming later this week, and they've had the luck to draw Spyrers as their first round. Should be an interesting game - Ogryns are very much better at close combat than shooting, giving the Spyrers a bit of an edge with their weird guns.
 |
Ogryn and Bear It |
If anything can possibly even the odds against the weapons and skills of a Spyrer team, though, it's the sheer muscle mass of the Ogryns! Lobo-slaves can't be pinned, making them excellent distraction carnifexes. The big chaps can suddenly get faster than you'd expect (using combat drugs or tactics), have good throwing arms for grenades and are not easy to put down. I'm looking forward to seeing this pair of elite teams bashing each other around - expect a report around about this time next week.

A croc from a hard place |
One bonus model. It's a Sump Kroc for the Goliath team. As stubby as it is chubby, another good fun pet for your hivers - not the most deadly beast on its own, but it will counter-charge anyone daring to charge its owner. Goliaths are no slouch in melee already, but they're just as prone to getting clobbered on the charge by other melee masters as anyone. Being eaten by a crocodile before you get to make your hits seems like a good disincentive to me!
