There's a new Wolf Priest in town!
I was fortunate enough to be gifted a beautifully-converted Wolf Priest by the master of greenstuff Stranger Come Knockin, and the prospect of bringing Space Wolves to a Warhammer event was just the spur I needed to get him painted.
You may notice that his belt is missing a couple of knives between the unpainted and finished model. Jim actually took the model back and added this in subsequently because, well, you can never have too many knives.
The conversion is a fantastic one, and I appreciated it even more during the painting process. It feels like it has more detail than any comparable miniature I've worked on, and everything demanded to be done justice.
Narratively, it's a great match for my successor Space Wolves, The Hrungnir Pack. Being a chapter of primaris reinforcements from the Ultima Founding, they need as many Wolf Priests as they can to teach them the ways of the Rout.
I reckon this old boy, Klöver, is a firstborn who crossed the Rubicon to sort out that unruly rabble (you know, after they accidently destroyed a orbital battle platform).
I stuck with my usual Space Wolves palette (although only my very best brushes were used), and decided to make his robes white, to match the cloaks of other other senior commanders.
The bear pelt (or whatever Fenrisian fauna it is) was done with Gor-Grunta Fur, which is an excellent contrast paint for animal fur and feathers. It does stay quite shiny though, so I dulled it down with Agrax, Lahmian Medium and targeted drybrushing.
The shield was an interesting one - rather than go straight to the acrylics (and risking painting over the detail), I drybrushed silver over black, then stained the gold bits with Nazdreg Yellow and the blue bits with thinned-The Fang.
He's an absolute centrepiece, stands level in height and bulk to my gravis troops, and is always going to be bumped to a Master of Sanctity (this Priest is going to get heard!)
And if you want something equally awesome, I believe Stranger Come Knockin does commissions.
He's formidable! Cracking stuff.
ReplyDeleteCheers, he gets the Benediction of Fury as standard too - extra hitty!
DeleteAn excellent sculpt and a brilliant paint job to compliment it.
ReplyDeleteSomeone's got to keep these Primaris pups in line.
DeleteI loved seeing your trio of characters leading the wolves and this chaplain looks ace!
ReplyDeleteThanks - some armies really lend themselves to having distinct characters, and I think Spaces Wolves are one (and so, ironically, are Thousand Sons!)
DeleteSuch a lovely model, but you've done it justice: well done
ReplyDeleteThanks!
