Harlon's Landing - Space Wolves vs Death Guard

We're back in the Gehenna system, and this time it's televised - the battle of Harlon's Landing, now on Deployment Zone TV!

Space Wolves vs Death Guard!

Not only was this a narrative mission for the Gehenna campaign, it was also one of the Winters' Tournament Practice series - where Winters SEO chooses a selection of victims to face him with the most competitive game of Warhammer 40k they can muster.

(note: I didn't volunteer for this - competitive play is hard work!)

It the same multiple-small unit army of Primaris marines that I took against Monkey some week ago. it worked out pretty well for me last time, so almost no changes.

One minor change was swapping out my Wolf Priest's Canticle of Hate (I already have a +1 to charge as standard) for Exhortation of Rage (+1 to wound in melee).

I did build the list blind, so I didn't know I'd be facing Death Guard (much less what would be in this Death guard army!), but I knew it was a possibility. If I had more thunder hammers, I would have taken them, since my ubiquitous power fists were going to be wasted against Disgustingly Resilient

Still, what I did have in my favour was numbers, and bag of cunning wolf tricks.

Death Guard - The End of All Things

Mortarion! When it comes to tournament play, Winters doesn't mess about. This list basically has two very dangerous, very resilient units - Mortarion and the Blightlords - with everyone else there to score the objectives.

My list is build to get close and assault - neither one is a particularly good idea with the Death Guard - but with the ranged firepower of the Plagueburst Crawlers, holding back isn't an option either.

  • Mortarion - Daemon Primarch (Supreme Commander) (Warlord)
Attendant's claws and teeth, Phosphex bombs, Silence, The Lantern
Warlord Trait: Arch-Contaminator, Living Plague, Lord of the Death Guard, Toxic Presence
Psychic Powers: Curse of the Leper, Gift of Contagion
  • Pollos, Lord of Contagion (HQ)
    Plaguereaper
    Plaguechosen: Hulking Physique
  • Delirium the Corruptor, Malignant Plaguecaster (HQ)
    Corrupted staff
Psychic Powers: Miasma of Pestilence, Putrescent Vitality
  • 5 x Plague Marines (Troops)
    4 x Boltguns, 5 x Plague Knives, 1 x Flail of Corruption
  • 5 x Plague Marines (Troops)
    4 x Boltguns, 5 x Plague Knives, 1 x Flail of Corruption
  • 10 x Poxwalkers (Troop)
    Improvised weapon
  • Foul Blightspawn (Elite)
Plague sprayer, Unholy Death's Head Grenade, Viscous Death
    Relic: Revolting Stench-vats
  • 10 x Blightlord Terminators (Elite)
    6 x Combi-bolters, 2 x Blight Launchers, 2 x Flail of Corruption
  • Plagueburst Crawler (Heavy)
2 x Entropy cannon, Heavy slugger, Plagueburst Mortar
  • Plagueburst Crawler (Heavy)

  • Rhino (Transport)

    1. Thanks - I think the Assault Squads really round off the army.
