It's the Hobbypocalypse time again!
Finally, we're back to the infantry!
Despite being on Month 4, I haven't really had a chance to get back into power armour since I started. So this is a treat I've been looking forward to.
I also get a chance to add some ranged firepower to my melee-heavy Sisters army. The advance scouts of the Dominions and the heavy guns of the Retributor.
I stuck with the Puppetswar heads for the Dominions, giving them that 'Wood Elf' look. For the Superior (who comes from the multi-part Battle Sisters box - a very nice kit), I gave her the hooded Canoness' head, so she can fit into the unit, but also yell orders at them.
And so, by pinching the other two artificer-crafted stormbolter Sisters I painted in Month 1, I have a full squad of Dominions. This did mean, however, that I'd robbed my Battle Sisters squads of some special weapons.
And another Battle Sister with a heavy bolter, for no other reason than I like them.
Same colour scheme as before (quick and easy, which is good because I could happily paint hordes of them):
hair.
- Armour: Black undercoat, Leadbelcher drybrush, Militarum Green contrast
- Robes: Caliban Green base, Loren Forest layer, Straken Green highlights
- Reverse-robes: Naggaroth Night base, Genestealer Purple layer
- Bolter casing: Baneblade Brown, Agrax Earthshade wash
- Skin (light): Bugman's Glow base, Cadian Fleshtone layer, Kislev Flesh highlight
- Skin (dark): Rhinox Hide base, Mournfang Brown layer
- Hair: Khorne Red base, Jokareo Orange layer, Fire Dragon Crimson highlights
- Purity Seals (wax): Naggaroth Night base, Genestealer Purple layer
- Purity Seals (paper): Zandri Dust base, Screaming Skill layer
- Wooden icons: Steel legion Drab base, Agrax Earthshade wash
To pile on the power, some Retributors with multi-meltas!
It may be because these were something of a drag to assemble (lots of cabling and arms and weapons to glue together all at once!) but I was starting to regret my choice of going with multi-meltas over heavy flamers. Given than the Retributors are a one-shot unit (it's an unwise opponent that allows them to live for a second turn), I wonder if hosing down an opponent in holy fire might be more reliable than hoping to make melta shots.
Still, the poses are very dynamic and the barrels are pre-drilled, so I can't complain too much. I daresay they'll have their day when they knock out a couple of tanks in one volley (and several more where they just whiff).
To command them gallantly (i.e. get removed as the first casualty), I added a Superior. For a change, I gave her a right-handed chainsword, only to realise how many of the Sisters are firing off in the opposite direction (so it doesn't say much for her command ability).
Luckily, Superiors are interchangeable, so this one got drafted into a more mobile unit of Battle Sisters, where she is spurring them on, and I gave the Retributors a more shooty one.
I saved my favourite model for last - the Palatine (Sororitas Lieutenant to you). This was a kitbash from a spare Repentia Superior. While I like the official Palatine model, I don't £21 like it and so, in the spirit of CheapHammer, this was built with spare parts from the Seraphim, other Repentia Superior and Escher head.
I do like the way she's lobbing one book of holy text, while keeping a spare one at her belt.
The Escher head turned out quite well too (although I'm suspecting my Sisters have something of a smoking problem) - the googles and bubblegum pink hair gives her a bit of charatcer.
And that's the month done! Passed the halfway mark now and, with 1000pts in the bag, I can start to have some proper games with them!
Having faced these on the table I can say they are a tasty bunch.
