20 models in one batch? I must be repenting for something...
Month 2 for the Hobbypocalypse, and clearly Month 1 wasn't enough of a deluge of infantry, I'm adding even more to my Sisters of Battle!
Once the troop units were out of the way, Repentia were an obvious choice for me. They're almost as iconic as Battle Sisters, and promise to be tremendous fun to play. It's because of them that I'm throwing myself fully into the melee options (Order of the Bloody Rose, The Passion ... I'll worry about what to do with tanks later).
With two starter sets and a multipose box set, I ended up with quite a lot of these Repentia, so I suppose I'd better start thinking about how to build my army around them. But the first order of business was to paint them.
With my body in full Warhammer Fantasy Regiment mode, I took them all on at once. This took me a lot longer than anticipated because 1) it always does and 2) despite having no armour, they are still festooned with all types of armour plugs, scars, trinkets, purity seals and, in a few cases, cilices (which I only know about because I'm a philistine who read The Da Vinci Code).
But I soldiered on, unrepentant, and I'm very pleased with the results. I don't think I took off my magnifying glasses while painting these and the result are details that my poor eyes can't even see (still, at least the digital camera gets to enjoy them).
An interesting note about the differences between the monopose and multipose Repentia: although they both have the same design aesthetic, there's a very different vibe with the multipose box. The monopose ones are almost 'prancing' with their eviscerator chainblades, with the multipose ones are must more obviously struggling with the weight of them (which I think looks cooler).
Since I had duplicates from the monopose box (thank you for the extras Sultan), I used the spare heads and arms from the kit to make every Repentia unique. They aren't perfect fits, so there's some cutting and filling to be done, but it's worth it for the variety.
I used the same basic colour scheme as for my Battle Sisters, although I stopped at the basecoat of Caliban Green for the cloth, which had a better vibe for penitent sackcloth.
Once the kit and the monopose Repentia had been assembled, I only had seventeen of them (very weird allocation of numbers by GW here). Luckily, I also had some spare Arco-Flagellants, so I took one of the female ones, snipped off any techno-kibble and added spare Repentia bits to make up an eighteenth!
And what would Repentia be without a Superior to encourage them? I liked the standard kit one so much, I didn't change it, other than a headswap for an Escher head.
But I also liked the monopose Superior, and I certainly have enough Repentia to justify it! So I added that one too, this time with a mohawk (painted like 80s X-Men Storm) and a ginormous lho-stick in her mouth.

That's my Month 2 tally done! I think I've paint my infantry dues for a while, so I'll be doing something very different next month.
Bloody Rose? Bloody lovely, more like.
ReplyDeleteI love the description of the difference between monopose and multipose - I can see exactly what you mean! Very cool-looking unit, lovely work!
