Black Magic

With all these Malignant Plaguecasters on the scene, how about a humble Nurgle Sorcerer?

Bibbidi bobbidi buboe!

Just a single model update - but I haven't get any more Black Legion planned before Xmas, so he gets a post all to himself.

Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle for the Black Legion, Warhammer 40,000

He's the unit Champion from the Death Guard half of Dark Imperium - but far too cool a model to be buried in a squad. With that hood, and that fly hovering over his backpack, he was a Sorcerer in the making!

I took the power fist off his right arm, replacing it with a lance from the Chaos Knights kit, and the Nurgle icon from the old Chaos Space Marine box (they had the best icons!).

It always seems worth slapping a combi-bolter on a character, in the absence of a better gun, so I fashioned one from a bolt pistol and the Blightlord Terminator kit.

Standard Black Legion colours - which work really well with the plague marine look (I'm definitely going to add in a squad).

I also used some Contrast paint on the squishy bits, and that worked out well. I'm due to post about my adventures with Contrast paint, but I've found it works better in tandem with regular paints, rather than sloshing it all about.

  • Gold armour: Retributor Armour base, Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Black armour: Chaos Black base, Mechanicus Standard Grey layer,
  • Pipes, straps & gun barrels: Ironbreaker base, Nuln Oil wash
  • Bullets: Runelord Brass + Xv88 base, Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Robes: Khorne Red base, Nuln Oil wash, Mephiston Red layer
  • Skin: Rakarth Flesh base, Reikland Flesh wash, Pallid Wych Flesh layer
  • Icon: Screaming Bell base, Agrax Earthshade wash
  • Tentacles: Wraithbone base, Militarum Green contrast
  • Fly: Wraithbone base, Plaguebearer Flesh/Snakebite Leather contrast
  • Very light drybrush with Terminatus Stone

Next up: who knows? I've got a lot of backlog to shift before the end of the year!

  1. That's a really lovely job. In retrospect you're completely right that that model is crying out to be something more than a champion

    1. Thank you - I can't wait to get going on some Black Legion Plague Marines in the same style.

  3. There's a lot of word on the rumour mill that specialist marines (plagues, rubrics, etc) are gaining an extra wound in the near future. Good time to be collecting them, perhaps!

    1. Very interesting. Received wisdom is that "normal" plague marines aren't very good (read "ultra-competitive"), but I've always found them (a) fun to play and (b) pretty effective, particularly now with Hateful Assault and things like Flails of Corruption and Blight Bombardments. Adding a W could end up tipping them over to be far too expensive to use as common-or-garden foot soldiers. I hope they don't do that.

    2. I saw the same rumour too. And while I may be looking a fool in a couple of weeks, I reckon it's too bonkers to be true.

    3. Unless GW are about to bring out their own range of wound counters, to handle all the admin of these new multi-wound models, in which case, it's right on the money.

    4. Agreed - they already border on the pricey end, the extra cost would hurt them more than they'd gain. Same for rubrics, noise marines and berserkers, I suspect. But yes, salt required!

  4. Badass! The DV Nurgle stuff really is amazing. I keep feeling like I should see about picking up another lot of it just to use for more involved conversions.

    1. Thanks - and yes, I've got Warhammer Conquest to thank for giving me a whole bitz box full of conversion fodder.
