Kairic Rolled

Due to the machinations of their arch-rival, Nurgle (i.e. an outbreak of chickenpox), these guys didn't get painted fast enough to attend WoffBoot XI.

But they have a battle coming up this week, and while they have a reputation of being expensive Marauders with a shooting option, I'm never gonna to give them up, nor let them down.

My Kairic Acolytes are from the Silver Tower set, which means I am two short of the minimum requirement, not to mention missing some of the new accessories.

These two makeweights are from the newer Kairic set. While they do match the Silver Tower boys (with some variation. Change is, of course, inevitable) the sculpts seem just a fraction simpler.

This is no bad thing, as it makes the prospect of bashing out a set of 20 much more palatable. They also have unique poses, so no need for extra conversions.

The coolest element (though pretty situational) in the new warscroll is the Vulcharc. I'm not sure about it's taxonomy, but the model looks like they're throwing a vividly-coloured turkey at enemy wizard - which is, you have to admit, a pretty alarming weapon.

Not having such a model, I improvised with the vulture from the Giant kit. He's a more subdued beastie, but perches nicely on this Acolyte's shoulder.

Same painting recipe as last year (there's a reason I write these things down), although I continued my multi-ethnic composition with paler flesh, which hopefully keeps the unit looking diverse (and not that I've forgotten my original recipe for flesh).

  • Gold: Retibutor Armour base, Reikand Flesh wash, Golden Griffin drybrush
  • Skin: Flayed One Flesh + Reikland Flesh (one with a Seraphim Sepia wash)
  • Cloth: Naggaroth Night base, Drakenhof Nightshade wash, Genestealer Purple drybrush
  • Kilts: Drakenhof Nightshade over Grey Primer; Celestra Grey and White Scar highlights

A last addition is the Scroll of Dark Arts - the one on the kit is a huge tapestry, but I made do with the scroll from the Mordheim accessory sprue. I tried some sorcerous icons on the outside, although it does look a bit like wrapping paper (itself something of a Dark Art).

"Mister Potter. Our new celebrity.”

That completes the unit. You may notice they are no longer based with Agrellan Earth. It was a nice idea, but it didn't really work in practice (like Communism, or the McRib) - so now they're the standard snow-covered desolation as the rest of my chaos army.

And away they roll. Time to say goodbye, as they're never gonna roll a die and hurt you.

  1. The McRib was a misunderstood work of genius. You, sir, are a heretic and I shall see you on the field of battle.
