The Penitent's Men

Do you have time today to talk about our Lord and Saviour, Being On Fire?

It's getting hot in here
So take off all your face

Redemptionists! For when the Fire Department just won't do. Very nice kit, and if they're sadly monopose out of the box, I liked them too much to be bothered to do anything about it. My only disappointment here is that they're the Cawdor equivalent of the other gang add-ons and you only get six of them.

Altarnate Weapon Boy

The Bad Samaritans were my original Redemptionist gang from the nineties, led by Father Chokechain and a very good deal more successful than my Delaque. Possibly because you could give them all flamers, which can't miss and therefore hop over the 'dreadful dice rolls' step that hampers me from time to time. One of them, at least, I could always still fail the wound rolls if I needed to.

Sawn of a Preacher Man

If you can't set fire to it, it's not a problem worth solving, is very much the Redemptionist way. They're usually depicted as bright and fiery in their colours, but I decided to go drab and practical instead. Heavy leather robes, thick gauntlets and dark masks, inspired somewhat by the player models from Hunt: Showdown. Blue and red for spot colours, some dark metal and done!

Saint Crispy's Day

Painting Guide:

  • Basecoat - Rhinox Hide
  • Leather - Sponge stippling with Gorthor Brown, Karak Stone and Terminatus Stone, then washed with Athonian Camoshade and Nuln Oil in the deepest bits, a few scratches in Ash Grey or Skeleton Bone added later
  • Masks, Belts and Boots - Black, Dark Reaper with a little blending towards White
  • Grey Leather - Uniform Grey, Nuln Oil, Uniform Grey and Ash Grey drybrush
  • Flesh - The usual, Tanned Skin, Reikland Flesh wash, Barbarian Flesh, Kislev Flesh, Eldar Flesh drybrush
  • Metal - Oily Steel, Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, Platemail Metal
  • Grenades and Fuel - Khorne Red, Agrax, Evil Suns Scarlet, Kislev Flesh drybrush
  • Hair - Uniform Grey, Ash Grey, Nuln Oil, blending up towards white via Ulthuan Grey
  • Gold Detail - Antique Gold (Vallejo) and Nuln Oil
  • Fire - Crystal Blue, Voidshield Blue blended up towards White, Dark Blue and Black drybrushing
Rules-wise, these guys can be blended into a Cawdor gang or run their own illegal outfit. Lots of options for fire, as you'd expect, and new 'Acts of Faith' type abilities that can be triggered occasionally if the gang is being zealous enough. These might not be painted to fit in with my Cawdor particularly, but they'll mix in well enough. They'd also work as Inquisitorial Acolytes, come to think of it.

Rev. R. Rending Story

He was going to have a copy of Der Hexenhammer, but my wife's suggestion was funnier. v3.5 or die, heretics!

Waaaay down the line (or if I suddenly started playing Necromunda a lot more) I could be tempted to come back to these guys and get some cheap plastic Frostgrave types to pad out the gang, cheap nobodies clutching flails or some such. For now, it's just another step towards having one of everything! Slave Ogryns and the lovely (but gone from the shelves) Outlaw gangs are on the list, as are Ambots. And more scenery, always, but there's no rush on that!

  1. That's a lovely dusty look on the brown robes: much better than bright colours!
