Waste Not

Bits box bashing and birthday bonuses today.

That nice man General Bubonicus had a nice idea this year. Send round a collaborative bits box, take up to half of what you receive out and replace it with whatever you've got lying about. My turn arrived a couple of weeks ago, and I was delighted to have all sorts of esoteric bits of Eldar, Votann and Age of Sigmar stuff to sift through.

These three are the first fruits of that labour. Bodies from either Kharadron Overlord stuff (I think) or perhaps Votann? Hard to say. A good match for Ironhead Squat arms, anyway, so I made myself one chubby fella with a pair of melee weapons and a couple of juves for the team.

Juves are called Diggers in an Ironhead gang. Not sure if that's a Gorkamorka reference? You can still give them proper guns, unusually, so there's one in his shirt and braces toting a bolter.

The other one gets a medkit and a power fist. Do not accept his offer of a prostate exam.

I took a few other odds and ends for later projects, and then stuffed a bunch of things from my huge estate of sprues in. Amongst them was a pristine set of weapon upgrades for this lot, because you get two in the box and I only needed one.

Yes, I went and completed my Necromunda collection! One full gang of everything with options to spare, more than I'll likely ever use or need. The Ash Waste Nomads here are just in time to a) miss the KnockRat and b) arrive just after the reveal of plastic hangers-on, immediately invalidating my claim to have finished the collection. Dagnammit.

Very cool models to paint, actually. Busy even by modern GW standards, they're dripping with tangly hoses, weird pouches and containers. Quite an elaborate time to be had, even by doing all the robes first in a fast, wet blend of contrast and drybrush.

That's not a long rifle.

This is a long rifle.

There's one mild conversion who got a massive Skaven jezzail, another who got a taller back banner, the rest are just the arm and head swaps that come with the upgrades. As a gang, they're mostly ranged experts. Their special abilities are being able to hide in the open (if they're outside, anyway) and mostly ignore the awful terrain penalties that come with wastes games, but quite a few of their weapons are no joke.

Blaster guns (the ones I've managed to paint to look like zoom lolly launchers) are extra good against vehicles, but they can bring webbers for close range work. It will be interesting to see how they handle at some point or other. Perhaps I need to consider some sort of running Necromunda campaign for next year too?

Oh yes - there's this chap too. Freebie of the month, painted to match the abortive Chaos Dwarf army I started many years ago. Very nice sculpts, these new pretenders to the Chorf throne, but the old Forge World resin ones still just win out for me. That new brass bull is a bit special, though. No! I'm not tempted! Quite enough Necromunda still out there for me!

  1. Looking good! I love that idea about a communal bits box.
