All-new Necromunda? What's all this then?
Fear not, I haven't fallen into a new gaming system (although I can understand why that might be your first assumption). These Palanite Enforcers were painted up as part of my contribution to the upcoming Weekend at Burnie's 2 narrative event.
And, as my reward, I got to name each of them. Which should explain a lot.
As with many of the new releases, it's a cracking set of models, but you have to live with the limited options (basically each model can switch guns, and that's it). Not that it deterred me from slipping a few conversions.
Mr Pump, for example, got a Reiver head. It's a little big, but that works, since it makes the model look beefier (and humans, I'm led to believe, can be taller and shorter than each other).
Judge Bullets not only got a headswap (Statuesque Miniatures female bald head), I also gave her the classic 'two-gun' pistol pose.
The rest of the squad were assembled as advertised. The weapons are pretty cool - combat shotguns and some hefty stub pistols. The bolters with the sloping drum magazines seemed a bit odd, but apparently that's a thing in real life, so it's all good.
There are some nice choices of pose - I really like Cold Steel's 'gun-over-flashlight' that just screams police TV show. Makes a nice nod to these guys being domestic enforcers, not front-line soldiers.
I was requested to do them in red and grey, and so these guys got a fairly basic scheme - there's lots more detail to be picked out if you were so inclined.
- Basecoat: Grey Primer
- Drybrush: Longbeard Grey
- Armour: Khorne Red
- Helmets and boots: Dark Charcoal (Vajello)
- Weapons: Ironbreaker
- Belts and gear: Snakebite Leather
- Eye lens: Averland Sunset
- All over wash with Nuln Oil
That said, I couldn't resist a bit of freehand, especially when their chestplates are such a perfect canvas, so they got a simple icon of the Gallowsmen.
As models, the armour-and-cloth make for some nice choices in paint scheme. Probably more so than their spiritual ancestors, the Adeptus Arbites, whose power armour makes them look more like skinny marines (although they do have a trenchcoat and a cyber-mastiff, so that wins me over)
In scale, they're noticeably larger than the standard Imperial Guardsman. Maybe they'd work as Veterans or alternate Scions - they'd make for a cool looking unit on the tabletop, and I'll be incorporating some of the spare bits into my future Guard army (it will happen, promise).
And that's the unit - they've already been moved on to their master, Inquisitor Braxton, and so will be forming his retinue from here on.

Love 'em. Christmas soon, I'll be after some of these from santa!

DeleteThey look awesome, but most of the names sound kind of stripper-ish to me. Well, that's more just a different kind of awesome, I guess ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha! There is a bit of an in-joke with the names that refers to a never-released trailer for the Hot Fuzz movie.
