Dragon it out

...aaaand that's a wrap.

Last of the High Elves painted, although I've still got the bases and movement trays to finalise before the job's a good 'un. Save the best until last, right?

Reap the Rewards

Finally! A little over a year and a half after the paying end of things, my Reaper Bones II Kickstarter backer stuff turned up.

The armchair it's sitting on is only toddler-size, sadly. And thank you Blogger for your mystic ability to undo photo rotation, very helpful.

Seeing as I've been banging on about it for ages, I thought I'd do what middle-aged nerds of the internet generation seem to do and unbox it. Not as a video, I know that's the tradition. But I just don't have the power, sorry chaps.

So, what's in the box? Find out after the break!

Easter Egg

Happy Easter! In keeping with religious observance, here are some pictures of Space Marines.

That tub raid the other day netted a few other abandoned projects and forgotten minis. These Black Templar Sword Brethren chief among them - one got done last summer, the rest have been partially done or in undercoats for years. My original plan was to do them in patriotic Red, White and Blue for some reason. So glad I abandoned that. UKIP doesn't need power armour.
I bought the set because I liked the models; painting actual Black Templars was never going to be my cup of tea. Reason being painting things in White and Black is a) boring and b) really hard to do well. Hence the FantaMarine here.
Blue-green is supposed to be a good complementary colour for orange, according to old school wisdom. I couldn't actually find a canon chapter with bright orange armour, so I don't know who he's really with.

Pokemon! I choose Chosen!

Ah, Christmas! Time for a Christmas bonus. In that I actually got one, from a London writing job that gave me a bit more than I was expecting. Enough to splash out on something that had caught my eye a while back.

Santa? You've... you've changed...

Mierce Miniatures featured in one of the Cracking Gaming Blogs last December, Dice and Brush I think it was. He'd bought some of their minotaurs, and I was rather taken with their range of Celtic/Dark Age fantasy stuff.

Who's Da Boss?

(or, if you're reading this in the UK, circa 1991: "The Upper Hand")

Despite having a considerable amount of Savage Orcs to paint up, it became apparent very early on that I had no model that would make a suitable Warboss (putting half my command models on chariots probably didn't help that).

I know it is heresy to spend your money anywhere else than GW, but their only representation for a brutal chieftain of a barbarian tribe was this twinkle-toed prancer...

Tr-la La-la-lally!

Preferring my Warbosses to have both feet on the ground, I looked elsewhere, and discovered a rather splendid 'Orc Brute' from the Avatars of War range (it's no Mantic Games, where you can pick up massive numbers of troops at a good price - but the character models are superb).

Behold my treachery.
