HQs

HQs consist of an Overlord, Skorpekh Lord and Royal Warden from Indomitus plus another Overlord (or just a plain Lord) with or without a Resurrection Orb (this fellow is from the Catacomb Command Barge and is magnetised to go on that or be on foot by himself). I've also got Illuminor Szeras, shown at the top of the page.

Next are the Crypteks, a Technomancer and Plasmancer plus their dustbin-like Cryptothrall bodyguards and then I've recently added a Psychomancer (who's a marvellous model, if still resolutely rubbish on the battlefield) and a Chronomancer.

Lastly in this slot is a Catacomb Command Barge. As noted above, this is magnetised so the Lord can go on foot and it can then operate as an Annihilation Barge:

Troops

First up two units of twenty Warriors with the short-ranged but devastating Gauss Reapers

Then ten Warriors with the longer ranged Gauss Flayers. I've another ten of these rescued from eBay that need a repaint, but are fieldable at a push, and another twenty yet to be built.

Two units of five Immortals next. The ones on the left are magnetised so they can field Tesla Carbines instead of the Gauss Blasters they're currently armed with. The ones on the right are magnetised so they can become Deathmarks, the Necron snipers.

Elites

First up is a Triarch Stalker, magnetised so it can carry any of the three weapons options under its belly.

Then a Canoptek Spyder.

Then a unit of ten Lychguard. I'm pretty proud of this unit as they're magnetised not only so they can carry the swords and shields pictured above or the Warscythes, but they can also be Triarch Praetorians with either of the weapon options available to them. There are a lot of tiny magnets in those shoulders and wrists...

Two units of three Skorpekh Destroyers plus a Plasmacyte to inject them with stims.

A Canoptek Reanimator

The Hexmark Destroyer is also a cool model and I think could perform well on the table.

Ten Flayed Ones

Fast Attack

A cool eighteen bases of Canoptek Scarabs. That should be enough...

Three Canoptek Wraiths, magnetised for the different combat and shooting options available.

Heavy Support

Three Lokhust Destroyers and one Heavy Destroyer (the latter is magnetised to take either the anti-tank or anti-infantry gun, though I'm not sure why I bothered as it's not like anyone knows which is which anyway!).

A couple of Canoptek Doomstalkers.

This is now painted, but I've not taken a pic yet. This is another magnetisation special, either as a Doomsday Ark or a Ghost Ark.

Fliers

Lastly, a Doomscythe, which can switch to being a Night Scythe very easily (there aren't even any magnets here, it's just a push-fit).

Painting

I wanted a pretty easy paint scheme so I could get these guys ready easily. I also wasn't keen on the specific colour schemes for "proper" dynasties, so came up with my own which could be any dynasty I like. Everything starts with a spray of Leadbelcher, then sequential washes of Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade and then Seraphim Sepia (the same sequence I used for my Death Guard). This gave an aged look, appropriate for an army that's just dragged itself above ground after millions of years of hibernation.

Black areas were Abaddon Black highlighted with Skavenblight Dinge, then Stormvermin Fur (both of which are very dirty greys, which I like).

Glowing areas start with an undercoat of Howling Banshee (an old pot of light bone-coloured base), then a generous wash of Tesseract Glow. Once that's dry I added another light wash of Biel Tan Green, then highlighted back up with Bilious Green. As I've said before, this is such an amazing colour and fits perfectly as a highlight for Tesseract Glow.

  1. Very nice! Quick and effective for painting, and a holy terror to behold so many already out of hypersleep!

  2. Wow! I had no idea you had so many Necrons. They just seemed to spring out of nowhere (entirely lore-appropriate).

    1. Indomitus, Eradication Legion and half of Forgebane (Monkey got the other half) was a pretty handy start to the army. I hadn’t clocked that I had quite as much as this until I started writing this up though
