What can I say? There's always room in my heart for more terrain. Just not on the shelves.
Despite swearing to myself that I'm not going to start collecting the Necromunda vehicle ranges, I still kind of felt it would be good to have an outdoorsy board on offer. On a budget, of course, preferably of zero.
Zero didn't quite happen, thanks to tripping, falling and landing on Temu, which has a surprising amount of 3D printed stuff for cheap. Being very much a gamified shopping experience (my one weak spot), getting a few things from it immediately qualified me for some free extra things. Free so long as you spent a bit more, of course, they're not stupid, so I've already deleted the app before I need to sell the house. Or indeed buy a house so that I can resell it.
The 3D printing stripes are visible, but not massively so. For the price (£8), I'm not complaining. |
You've already seen the nice desert rocks, so here is a selection of craters:
Long-absent from my terrain selection, craters. Can you even play Warhammer without some? It may not be allowed. The ash look I'm going for is very pale, because I'm planning on using my snow mat as the background. Got to make the savings somewhere. The tufts help sell that it's white sand/ash/salt rather than snow, I think.
Next, we get into the actually cheap stuff. A shack made from cardboard, sprues and a plastic toilet disc dispenser:
Some IKEA fake cactuses (the range is called Prickli), chopped up and painted blue then glue-gunned to a rock and card base:
I think these turned out really well and I'd ideally like to do more of them, but painting them took ages and was not fun, so we'll see. Ulthuan Grey with Ahriman blue, mostly. |
And the pots from the cacti, upended and wired into a pot noodle tub to make some kind of science outpost.
The wires here are old phone chargers, chewed apart by our cat, who quickly discovered I wouldn't get out of bed to make her breakfast at 0500 if she just meowed, but that I would leap into action if she started gnawing cables. The decayed relay thing is the sprue from some Ziterdes vehicle accessories, the rest of the add-ons are mostly GW stuff.
There's more on the way for this board, which is going to be very light on cover (and vehicles) but hopefully strong on vibes!
Those craters and the graffiti are doing a fine job of keeping it Necromunda. There's sumpy ick below the surface and delinquent juves with spray paint, even out here in the Wastes.
ReplyDelete(DAS modelling clay and corrugated cardboard are my go-tos for this sort of nonsense. I need to slap up some rocky outcrops myself, just for games when it's *not* wise to fight over the Necron cityscape...)
