Vamp My Style

The last of the Rampart Kickstarter bits - Space Vampires!

1!

Much as I liked the Aztec Snakemen, these are even better. Something of the GW Blood Knight about them, with their ornate gothic armour and (obviously) bald Nosferatu heads. With the scenic bases, dynamic poses and fancy weapons, they make a very nice squad.

Quite what they Vampire Counts As, in terms of 40K, is anyone's guess. Inquisitorial Henchmen, is my thinking, maybe some ex-bounty hunter who has cloned himself? Or Drukharii raiders, not that I really need any of them.

The red armour turned out nice, it's done with a new colour as the base. Black Red from Vallejo paints, washed with Nuln Oil and then slowly layered up through Dragon and Lava reds (Army Painter) with a final touch of Wild Rider Red (GW). Quite an international affair, as reds go.

5 Space Vampires! Ah ah ah ah aaah!

That's not all, however - between us, Stylus and I bought some objectives by accident.

"We've secured Objective 4 by mistake."

In one of our scenery painting commission exchanges, Stylus was trying to get me some Galvanic Servohaulers from Conquest, but he got the issue with the objective markers instead. He saw the caterpillar tracks on the sprue and just went for it, I think.

We were both a bit confused when they turned up, and originally decided to keep and split them, but then I convinced him to have some Enforcers instead and hung on to them. And now they're done, mostly - I'm keeping the projector vanes for something else, but this lot will make for some nice bonus set dressing on the field.

The marble on the reliquary came out well, that's thin layers of Pallid Wychflesh over XV88 and Eshin Grey stripes with a little Dark Tone wash over it. And I did the armoured hand clutching the sword as an Ultramarine, because a dead one is the only kind I'll paint these days.

Right! Back to the zombies.

This is exactly how it went down.

Love the Space Vampires - you'll have a Flesh Tearers army in no time!

  2. The red armour on the space vampires does look really good.

I never cease to be amazed at the level of detail you get. Oh, and the marble effect on the reliquary really is fantastic!
