Midgard, Not Mid-Tier

The last of my Asgardians, and this one has all the joys of lightning stands and red capes.

Thor, Champion of Midgard!

There's already a Thor, Prince of Asgard in my collection, but this one is a Hero of Midgard. Being freed from the burden of leadership apparently endows Thor with more devastating attacks and a slightly bigger base.

When he was first released, this Thor was something of a 6 Threat beatstick that appeared everywhere. He's since been adjusted to a more reasonable level, so I didn't get to enjoy any of the broken goodness (the advantage of my slow painting is that power gaming passes me by). Even so, I'm sure he'd find a home with anyone who likes running large character murder lists.

Painting-wise, I'm afraid I didn't find Thor terribly inspiring (and that wasn't just because he was the last of the Asgardian queue). As you can see, the model is preposterously balanced on a bolt of lightning (if it's still in place in a year, I'll switch 'preposterous' for 'well-designed'). While this gives a really dynamic flying pose, there was no way I was going to paint it fully assembled.

So the lightning was painted separately (Frostheart and Ulthuan Grey) from Thor himself (mostly black or metal armour, plus a red cape). Nothing particularly challenging, but there's usually some pleasure in bringing a figure to life through paints, and this type of sub-assembly felt a bit perfunctory.

Still, he's done now, and quite impressive he is too. I'll now have to find something mighty to smite (or lend him to an opponent, and regret painting him in the first place).
