EXT: Danny's Boiler Room

Where the pipes, the pipes are calling.

New Necromunda, new pipe kit. I picked one up on impulse last weekend, had fun sticking it together and almost as much fun painting it.

Plenty of it, and it's all very modular. I followed the instructions almost to the letter and now slightly regret it - if you leave all the arched end bits off, everything else slots into them snugly. I could have left it all completely loose, making it easier to store and more fun to fiddle with both at once. Ah well! There's always the option of getting another one later...

It's still very adjustable as it is. The end bits mostly match up very well with only one or two being capping pieces. Most of my other pipes and tanks are in dirty green, so this lot has the same. Brass trim for that Victorian engine room feel, Black Templar or reds or blues to pick out cables and terminals.

The pipe bridge is one of my favourite bits. It fits neatly between two of the bulkhead bits when they're on a zone mortalis tile (even though I put the wrong end bit on the right), and the candle-lit servo-skull is a cutie.

I also went back to my older pieces and stuck a spare pipe connector into one of the arches. The big cog wheel can plug into this, or I can just match it up against other end bits for continuity.

The tank with the valve pipe and the command terminal is my other favourite. So much unnecessary detail! The screens came out well, those are transfers from the Palanite kit washed over with Biel-tan green and then given bad reception as I worked up the screen reflection.

During the same impulse spree, I got a pack of GSW resin barrels. I don't know why, I don't need more barrels and I don't like painting barrels (especially wooden ones), but somehow they just sang to me. Three small bits of scatter and more fun than I was expecting.

That's the lot! And I still have nothing in my paint queue. Better steer clear of the FLOGS or god knows what I'll end up with.

Good backwards compatibility - a section fits very neatly over a tower cap from the zone mortalis stuff.

If I had more, I'd be making vertical runs with it. I don't need more! Stop it!

  1. It all looks amazing! I love the tiny details like data on the screens. Makes me realise how much detail I miss when we're playing games over a fuzzy internet camera!
