A Pause for Breath

 

With tenth edition almost upon us, I found myself thinking about which were my favourite games of 40k since I got back into the hobby back in late 2018.

Anniversary time! Ten years ago today, we launched this humble hobby blog with the oft-asked question, "What is a Woffboot?"

To celebrate the occasion, we're bringing our the Warhammer Fantasy Battle armies that began this adventure - now this is a WoffBoot!

The Sons of Sanguinius

 Hello!
I  (Rapid) was most humbled when asked to contribute the the mighty Woffboot blog! Blood Angels player through and through, originally playing 2nd edition however many years ago that was (insert moment of denial to actual age). Coaxed back in early 8th and fallen for the game ever since. 40k has renewed friendships and created many more, including the wonderful chaps at Woffboot.
Play style wise, its about having fun. No one likes to lose all the time but its great to just have those awesome smashing battles where heroes are made or broken!
9th is turning out to be some great fun with the BA. Lets hope for some belters going forward!
First port of call is to add my main army, the Blood Angels to the already well stocked army lists that Woffboot commands.

 Currently standing at approximately 6450pts painted. With over 5000pts left to paint. That number MAY have gone up today with some purchases. ..

The Hunt for Ahriman campaign concludes tonight! Does that slippery little Exile have one more trick up his sleeve?

Ahriman fell into a spiralling hell of colour and noise as he fell through the warp rift. For several seconds, neither time nor space had meaning. Everything was mutable - distance, physics, his own identity, the eventual destiny of the galaxy, everything. 

But he had been here before. Giving into this malleability would make everything that came before meaningless. A few hastily spoken wards stabilised him as he needed himself, and allowed a moment of reflection. 

Merely by having a will to express, he was already shaping the warpstuff around him. Whatever its true form, it was focussing itself into locations, physical places that his mind could understand. Fragments of a broken empire, hanging in space. Much like the reality he knew lay beyond, and also like that, his for the taking. No, that temptation wasn't worth giving in to. He had too much staked in reality. Hurriedly, he moved on.

As he moved, he searched. And before long, he found what he was looking for - a way out. A hanging oval, spinning around a point disconcertingly off-centre, with a hazy vista of broken rock and asphalt barely visible. Whatever benighted planet it was on, it would be safer than here. 

Moving towards it, he could hear the hoots and shrieks that justified his haste. He was not alone. Perhaps some of the denizens of the warp would serve him, for a time. But not all would be aligned with his goals, nor his expressed allegiance. 

Time to escape. 

The Rotfast Club: Death Guard vs The Purge

The Purge have heard tales of a lethal biotoxin accidentally made in an imperial manufactorum. The toxin killed everyone in the area and the facility has long been abandoned. The Purge want to find the toxin and spread it indiscriminately. 

Meanwhile, the Death Guard prefer a more measured approach than planet-wide slaughter and want to take possession of the biotoxin themselves to analyse it.

I, Pootle, will continue leading The Purge after the fun I had during the Averment Campaign, and I, Stylus, will take command of the Death Guard.

Knights are equivalent to twiglets. One is never enough! So I, Kraken, thought I'd take on the same crew as last time, only this time with some more... exotic battlesuits.

Kraken here. Been a while since I played T'au! Good looking army, I've always thought, but they feel like one of the villains of 40K to me. 

Tsk, they are not the bad guys, maybe misunderstood. Ah, I see your aversion to Tau ochre must be diminishing, I expected you to abhor the sight of that colour for a little while longer. Good to know! :)

Their reputation for fearsome gunline play is well-deserved. So what better to put them up against than one of 8th Ed's other big bogeymen, Imperial Knights?

Sounds like a good idea. My knights have not seen too much battle in their own right. Whilst they have been included as LoW in other armies, and were included in the large epic battle at last year's Woffboot, they have only had one battle (which was more onesided than I was expecting).

Once again I arranged a 2,000 point non-Skype battle but have been denied by Force Majeure. Last time it was Storm Ciara; now it's Covid-19. Neither Kasfunatu nor I have symptoms, but we both agreed it's sensible to fight remotely given that we can.

The Ninth Gate: Shooting

This is the Ninth Gate, my hapless attempts to predict what 9th Ed 40K might bring us! Remember - I've got an excellent track record for wrong-headedness.

This time round, it's the Shooting Phase. Pew pew pew! We'll also look at wounding mechanics, because they usually first crop up in the round when the gunning starts.

New models, new rules, a new year and a new hope - time for my first 40K of 2020! What better than to pitch the freshly painted Mantis Warriors against the Tyranids, and who better than to pitch against than Stylus?

Someone who knows about the White Scars supplement would be my guess, but I'm game!
