Christmas Elves

On the twelfth day of Advent, the WoffBoot brought to me ... Twelve Elves Off The Shelves

Fancy, fragile, functionally useless ... Elves, how we've missed you!

Let's get these guys back to Santa!

In the heady days when we all loved Peter Jackson movies (think back, it happened), I jumped on the bandwagon and bought myself the Fellowship of the Ring box set. I never really played the game, but a mere 15 years later - here are the models.

Overhead chop.

Nice models they are too, if a little monopose (there are only two different styles... if you look hard enough). Good detailing on the robes and armour, but nothing too fussy. Only the eyes are the problem - it's no fun painting the gaps in those Corinthian helmets.

Slightly Different Overhead Chop

You may be wondering how such a sluggardly painter like myself is able to crank out double-figures for this Advent challenge. Aside from that fact that a couple of these updates were half-finished projects that just needed a push to finish, these Elves were done from scratch since the start of December.

It really is a quick paint scheme, and I wanted to experiment with what washes over grey primer could achieve:

  • Cloak: Drakenhof Nightshade wash, White Scar drybrush
  • Armour: Auric Armour Gold, Reikland Fleshshade wash, Gehenna Gold drybrush
  • Robes: Caledor Sky, Drakenhof Nightshade wash,
  • Sashes: Nuln Oil wash

Huge variations on the 'overhead chop' theme.

It was such a simple scheme, even I couldn't drag my heels. I've had this unit on the side while I painted the other stuff, then finished with some details.

Easy-peasy - which is fortunate, as I've got another score to paint!

  1. Topically, total Warhammer just implemented the wood elves as a faction. Nicely done, but with some odd fluff/gameplay balances that sees the introverted elves rampaging across the old world to collect amber to regrow the oak of ages. Not quite sure of the biology behind that decision but I'm sure it was well researched.

    1. These guys were originally intended to be a unit of Wildwood Rangers. But they're so slender compared to the lead models, even the other elves were laughing at them.
