King Khorne: Black Legion

Pootle here with some pics from my newest army. Which isn't really new, just a rebrand.

I've been collecting a Purge army for some time but the latest CSM Codex does away with them completely. I don't fancy repainting them, so I've constructed a narrative where Gormenghastly has decided to throw in his lot with a Khorne-aligned strand of the Black Legion. Gormenghastly's tendency towards mass-murder, particularly in the Averment campaign, has always felt rather closely aligned with Khorne. To be clear, all the former-Purge forces remain aligned with Nurgle, but I decided to add a load of new models who would be Khorne aligned.

Stylus and I have had a narrative battle that delved into the exact circumstances of Gormenghastly's decision to join the Black Legion...I will get that batrep written up...at some point!

Accordingly I decided not to follow the traditional Black Legion paint scheme, but came up with something that reflected the Purge scheme but with a different colour depending on which god that unit followed. That means I can extend the army to add in Tzeentch or Slaanesh in the future.

First up is a Lord Discordant. He's always been a lovely model and I really wanted to do as good a job as possible; I'm really happy with how he's come out.

Next are eight Legionaries. I'm particularly proud of the home-made two-handed Heavy Chainaxe. I was all set to combine the two Chainaxe spares I had into one big blade, but Rapid had a great idea when we were talking a while back to have one blade on either end of a quarterstaff. The Flamer (actually a Death Guard Plaguespewer) is magnetised so it can be swapped for something else, as is one of the marine's Bolt Pistols (which could be a Plasma Pistol).

The next one was a magnetisation special. The Maulerfiend was another model I really fancied getting hold of and I managed to magnetise it to be a Forgefiend too. Great fun!

    1. Thank you; anything to avoid a strip-and-repaint - who'd do that kind of thing to a Purge army...?

  2. Oooh these have turned out really well! I’m looking forward to the narrative batrep in part just to see these models amongst the purge.

    1. It's on its way, though unfortunately doesn't involve these models but all of Stylus's minis on both sides...there's a reason for that

  4. Really like the black and metallic with just the plain red panels. It's a marked contrast between the parts which is great.

    1. Thank you! It was really intended to mirror the scheme I used for my Purge (black/metallic plus solid green) but it does definitely make them distinctive
