Hive City 5-0

Cop that, lead pile.

(Not that I have a lead pile. It's all plastic, and it's not much of a pile these days - lots of spare sprue bits and some very elderly fantasy orcs and goblins who are never getting painting full stop.)

In an entirely unjustifiable piece of egregious over-collecting, I got the newest Palanite box. Lovely models, really don't need them, but if I'm to try and get my Necromunda gangs to a pair of sets each, that's what was needed. That's the goal, don't ask silly questions like why, it just is. The Nomads need a set, then I'm done. Unless/until the next release, because where are my Scavvies, GW?

Robo-do’ po-po, y’all

Anyway - a pair of cyber-mastiffs, which are a bit marmite I think. I kind of like the weird grabby head, but they're nothing special otherwise. Hopelessly overpriced in the game for what they do, but very characterful as an option.

You have the right to remain silent.

Then we've got a pair of Palanite troopers. They could be sergeants, their helmet heads have an extra badge on that the originals don't, but they'll be footsloggers for me I think. I hadn't written down the original paint instructions! Luckily I remembered it pretty well, I think, although some of the paints had gone to rubber in the tub.

Next, the Subjugator sergeants, who have some nice new toys. One of which I'm not building, the fear gas sprayer is again very characterful but pretty rubbish on the table (doesn't pin, doesn't kill - why bring?). So I found one of the old sprues and gave him a combat shotgun instead, a gun that literally bangs in-game. The other one gets a scanner and a heavy stubber, so he can Frank his best Castle down in the hive.

Finally the Captains - very samey, but when they're this imposing I don't mind. I really need to buy myself a new greatcoat, and quite possibly a plumed helmet. Lovely stuff. One with pistol and sword, one with another OG gun (a concussion carbine, I think).

Funny - these new ones have very different chest plates to the original lot. Those had a blank circle that could take a transfer, these have a sculpted Helmawr skull/eagle thing. I prefer the blanks, you can do your own stuff then, although these are still very good looking.

All the Subjugators

Then I discovered I'd never painted the rims on the bases of the original squad! Shocking. So I've rectified that, and taken some nice shots of the whole lot on scenery to make up for the first time round.

All the Enforcers

No more Nauk Nauk, by the way - it's gone and monetised itself. You can still make free videos, but they are spectacularly awful, almost like they've told the AI to be provocatively bad unless it's paid. So my interest immediately moved on to something else cheaper. If only I could do that with my hobby.

The whole damn precinct

  1. They look fantastic - I'm sure the Underhive will be a picture of good order in no time.
