The second day of Weekend at Burnie's, and it only gets stranger!

Picking themselves up from their last defeat, Tzeletor's warband was ready to face the Ultramarines. There were commanded by Steve, who was relatively new to the game, but had already claimed the scalp of Winters SEO (presumably with the flat cap).

Game 3: Ultramarines

I may have mentioned that strange things were forecast at this tournament - before a shot had been fired in this game, two superheavy tanks showed up and opened fire on our armoured units.

I was quite relived to be rid of the Ultramarine's Repulsor, but it also cost me my Bastion, which meant that the Obliterators were thrown out into the open - where they did not last long under the mass of small arms fire.

With that out of the way, I started dashing my infantry squads towards the scattered objectives - this was a 'multiball' type mission, so it quickly degenerated into small-scale skirmishes over each objective.

Or perhaps not quite so small scale - once the Redemptor had charged in and ripped apart my Land Raider, we were both taken aback by the appearance of The Glottkin! (an Age of Sigmar beastie that we alternated control of). The Redemptor didn't last long, and the daemon monstrosity parked itself on an objective, taking on all comers.

Another battlesuit fracas was developing on the opposite side of the bard - Myphitic Mer-Man and his Plague Marines were contesting an objective with an Impulsor Warsuit. Despite being squashed one by one, they were outnumbering the objective and thus scoring points for every turn they endured.

As Brazen Beast-Man's Berzerkers cleared away the Aggressors (before getting wiped out in turn), the way was clear for Tzeletor and Psi-Klops to double team the Ultramarines Captain.

With his hex staff boosted by Possession, the Captain fell and a new Chaos Spawn rose from the corpus. The Chaplain could only look on in horror (but not for long, because he was soon chopped off the objective by Tri-Klops).

The third of my combat characters, Clawful Possessed had also not been idle. After helping Evil-Lynnquisitor and her Rubrics push the Inceptors off an objective in another far-flung corner, it was able to races across the board and deliver the coup de grace to The Glottkin.

With the battle drawing to a close, Tzeletor made a long dash to pick up one of the Tears of Magnus (the magical macguffins that were behind the whole narrative event). The final squad of Intercessors (one of the few units left by this point gave Tzeletor a full volley, but he hunkered down in a nearby crater for a good gloat.

It was all over, and the Evil Warriors pulled off their first win!

In truth, things got a little bit derailed once the superheavies had made their appearance (although The Glottkin was a nice addition that we both had fun using). Victory came down to the fact that, individually, my lone units were able to outperform the Ultramarines on the scattered objectives.

Final game of the weekend coming up!
