He Ain't Heavy, He's My Bunker

Tell you what, if I had one of these, I'd hammerfall in the morning.

There's a trend GW has been following of trying to release a piece of themed scenery for each army, sort of. They've been more regular with it in AoS, but 40K has a few now too. The Hammerfall Bunker is the Marine entry, and is a nice, solid chunk of concrete bristling with guns, as you'd expect.

It's inspired a reasonable amount of ridicule on the grounds that it doesn't quite do any of the things you'd expect from the name. It doesn't fall like a drop pod, despite that being in the fluff for it. Nobody can actually get inside, like you'd expect from a bunker. Despite the shape of the missile launchers, you can't even use it as a hammer, the base is too fat to grip properly.

Not really worth taking various angles of this. Seen one side, you've seen them all.

What you could do with it is plonk it in your deployment zone, anywhere with decent lines of sight, and leave it to squat over that area with a formidable amount of shooting. Trust me, it'll put holes in the enemy at a rate of knots, and isn't simple to remove either. Great for guarding a backline objective or from blunting the advance of a horde army, although possibly a bit over-priced?

Fun to paint, anyway. It's got a derelict concrete look so it can be used as plain scenery (maybe without the turret, or with a suitable lid over the hole), but there's a bit of Crypt Angel flair in there too.

"Alexa! Play something by Justin Timberlake!"

There's also a second squad of Eradicators for the Angels, because sometimes you just can't be too broken. Heavy weapon option for them, complete with cotton wool firing effect. Or, well, it's either fire or he's just dunked it in a creme egg, one of the two.

This is the vanguard of a block of Crypt Angels, covering some of the most recent marine releases, so expect more in due course!

  1. Looking good as always. I love the creme egg effect on the Eradicator. That made me think that I'd be tempted to get a great big wad of cotton wool (actually the artificial cushion stuffing is better of course) and make a smoke effect to plonk on top of the bunker without its turret. That would make a great piece of scenery.

    1. That's a great idea, a ruin marker! I have plenty of cotton wadding to hand, but maybe not quite enough superglue for a towering pillar of smoke. Have to see what I can do...
