Bjorn To Be Wild

One day before the big battle? Nothing like a bit of brinkmanship to lend wings to your paintbrush.

Bjorn the Fell-Handed for Space Wolves, Warhammer 40,000

Let's poke the bear!

Despite the Space Wolves range being a wonderful rogue's gallery of characters, I've avoided the special characters so far, since they don't fit the primaris-only theme.

(come on Ragnar Blackmane, I know you want to cross the Rubicon...)

But if there's an exception to be made - especially when The Rout are about to face-off against Ahriman - it's Bjorn the Fell-Handed!

In terms of build, this is the Venerable Dreadnought kit (than can vary as Murderfang or a regular Venerable Dread), so it's fairly versatile.

I didn't know what weapon loadout were best for Bjorn (I suspect lacannons might be a winner), so I went with what I remember from the classic sculpt: Trueclaw, heavy flamer and a big red assault cannon.

I don't really want this guy hanging around the back with the artillery when he could be running forward to tear heretics apart.

Although, as a character, Bjorn can't be targeted. This may seem strange, but then compare him with the latest breed of dreadnought and it explains how he might blend into the crowd.

Painting him was fairly straightforward - same 'prime, wash, drybrush' technique as the rest of my Space Wolves. There was some small gold detail to add, but that's not going to trouble a veteran of Rubric armour.

The only interesting part was his left-shoulder: in a nice nod to the original model's back banner (and the character's own history), it shows a Blood-Claw Bjorn slaying a great serpent. I painted this like the rest of the armour, then coloured it with washes, and lightly drybrushed over the top - I was going for that 'faced tapestry' feel.

But that's the Vlka Fenrika all ready for this evening's showdown with the Thousand Sons.

Don't forget there is still a prize to be won if you back #TeamStylus or #TeamKraken - and to give you a hint, here are the lists we shall be taking to battle.

  2. Fire all of your guns at once and
    Explode into spaaace!

Looks great there, even if pretty dwarfed by that Redemptor. Damn. I even have one and I keep forgetting just how huge they are. Love the old school touch with the red Assault Cannon.

The Twin Lascannon is, mathematically, the best option for him, but I prefer the Assault Cannon or Helfrost Cannon, just because rule of cool.
