Cyke!

The X-Men's first field leader, making indoor sunglasses cool since 1963.

Marvel Crisis Protocol: Cyclops

Cyclops was one of the first X-Men to catch my eye (sorry). Being an early adopter of thick NHS glasses, there was something inherently cool about someone who could use his eyewear to fire lasers (they're not lasers).

You can only imagine how disappointed I was to watch Star Trek: TNG and learn that Geordie LaForge's visor was only useful in restoring his sight. What use is that?

Anyway, Scott 'Slim' Summers (with those thighs?) was one of the original X-Men and who stuck around the longest, ushering in the new members. As an orphan raised by a wise mentor to lead his people to victory, he's ticking off a lot of classic hero tropes. This tends to obscure the fact that he's a tactical genius on a level with Captain America, a fairly ruthless commander and, since he ditched Jean Grey for Emma Frost, quite the power couple.

Model wise, he's not hugely inspiring - but it's hard to get much from someone tweaking their visor. His uniform hasn't changed much over the years, being a body stocking with gloves, boots and underpants (written like that, it sounds weird). This is the 90s reboot version, which essentially meant adding lots of unnecessary pouches and straps.

The model did come with the alternate head sculpt where Cyclops wears a balaclava-hood over his head. It was tempting, as it's another classic look, but this one screamed 90s cartoon, so I went with it.

Painting-wise, same blues and yellows as always - thankfully, I've come to the end of that style of X-uniform (until they release Morph!).
