Hjolda the Front Page!

Rumours that I had finished my Space Wolves army were clearly exaggerated.

Unleash the Rout!

Back in last summer's mad rush for the Indomitus set, I didn't know what I wanted any of the miniatures for, but I knew I would regret not getting them.

Sure enough, when I realised my Space Wolves needed a bit more choppy-chop in their ranks, I had ten Assault Intercessors ready and waiting.

These are some of the most wolf-customised models in my army, thanks to a generous donation of bits from an actual Space Wolf commander, Monkey.

Aside from looking great (the Mk XII helmet works well with Tacitus power armour), this fits my idea of the Assault Intercessors as the 'Blood Claws' of the Primaris army, and so a bit more relaxed with the uniform code.

They were pretty quick to paint up (given I tackled a squad of ten in one go). Not holding any ranged weapons across their chests made them easy to access, and my basic methods of wash and drybrush made this a palette cleanser after so much bone army for the Creations of Bile.

I gave each of the Pack Leaders a thunder hammer. They've been magnetised on, so I can swap out the weapon army - although the only reason I can think of to deprive a Space Wolf of a thunder hammer is so I can run a legal squad of 10.

One useful discover is that a Primaris Heavy Bolt pistol is the same as a regular Firstborn Bolt Gun, with the magazine clipped short. So three of the Assault Intercessors, including both Pack Leaders, get to have pistols with cool talismans on them too.

I also had some spare knives - you can never have too many knives - attached to the belts. And then as many runic transfers as I could find space for.

With two more Troops choices, I can now field a Brigade of Space Wolves, which is exciting.

I've also learned that, with the new 9th Ed codices, Space Wolves can now be successor chapters. I'm not crazy about that particular revision of the lore, but I do like the idea of having different traits for my all-Primaris army, who may not have the heritage of the Vlka Fenryka.

I'm thinking I'd like to try Hungry for Battle and Whirlwind of Rage, but that might be because I've just been painting Assault Intercessors.

Let's go to war!

  1. Smashing clean work! I don't suppose there's a battle report forthcoming that sees the Wolves back in action, is there?

    1. There would be - although all the photos are saturated in horrible sunshine, so I could have saved time by skipping the highlights.

  2. I second the above: the Assault Intercessors are great models (I love their dynamic poses), but the addition of the wolfy heads really works well

    1. Cheers, I'm glad I had the spare bits - I would have felt a bit short-changed if I'd gone with mostly helmets.
