Back on the Wagon

No trip to General Kas' fortress dwelling would be complete without a large haul of stuff to paint to take home. So I've got plenty to keep me more than busy for the long, slow trek to WoffBoot X, and here is the first of it as I try to break out of the hobby slump a fully gluttonous weekend engendered.

Back to the Dark Elves first, then, and here's some long awaited podiums for the ladies to gyrate on.

Funny model to paint, this. Mostly because it looks a bit drab without the decorative focal points it's supposed to have - very empty. But also quite hard to do all the spiky bits round the back justice (as well as something of the bastard to reach a brush into) and quite hard to resist the temptation to try and make it more eyecatching. Really, it doesn't need to be. The crew should stand out, and hopefully will, but I didn't bring them back with me and won't know until later.

Two versions. First, the Bloodwrack is in red and brass, with hotspots painted in. I know, it's very red. Fully magnetised, though, and ready to have the riders stuck on when it returns home.

This angle makes me want to whisper 'I See You' over and over.

Next, the Cauldron is in blue and jade, with electrical effects.

I wish they looked cooler, and not like the kind of hand-painted van a DnD-playing wannabe Metal singer might own. Can't have it all, though.

Painting Guide:

  • Bloodwrack Shrine - Khorne Red undercoat with Agrax Earthshade wash, Wild Rider drybrush
  • Cauldron - Stegadon Scale Green, Nightshade wash and Teclis Blue highlights
  • Jade - Goblin Green, Green Ink, Goblin Green layer, Salamander Green streaks, Hellion Green Drybrush, 'Ardcoat finish
  • Silver - Mithril, Nightshade Wash and Runefang drybrush. I have no black paint at the moment, so I was worried it might look too pale, but it seems fine
  • Brass - Brass Scorpion, Agrax Earthshade, Auric Armour drybrush
  • Cauldron Bearing Statue - XV88, Agrax Earthshade, Ushabti Bone layer, Brown Ink stripes, Tyrant Skull and Pallid Wychflesh drybrushes
  • Fire Effects - Used Wild Rider Red, Slayer Orange, Golden Yellow and Hexos Palesun layers
  • Lightning Effects -
  • Blood For The Blood God - Never guess where I put a lot of that

A couple more Dark Elves to do, then something very different and much bigger. And which definitely can't be squeezed into any sort of Elf Alliance army.

Go Wood Elves!
