Bringing Home The Bacon

Ten weeks until WoffBoot VIII? Damn, I'd better get painting!

My Savage Orc Waaagh! trundles along, slowly but inexorably, and next on the list are the Boar Boyz.

Half of them are taken from the leadpile, while the other half were painted up fifteen years ago and in dire need of a makeover.

Primary colours, photocopied banner, transfer stickers on the shields... the '90s was one crazy decade

I recall the 'singed effect' on the base of the banner was created by running a cigarette lighter beneath it. I was 20 at the time, which is a sad indictment of our higher education system.

I was planning on just repainting and rebasing these boys in accordance with the rest of my army. That was until I found the new-style boars (the ones that, radically, look like boars) for my chariots - and once they saw them, everyone wanted one.

After scrounging around the bitz stores, I was able to gather enough new plastic boars to remount my entire unit.

OINK! OINK!

And so came the task of dismounting my current Boar Boars from their dormouse-like steeds...

On the command, charge that hedge...

Dangerous Terrain tests ain't no thing.

On to the leadpile. I had four more boar boyz to work with (plus another one I got on eBay... and then *another* one, but that was all, I swear). Since there were a couple of duplicates in there, it was time for clippers and greenstuff.

This one already had the banner top removed, so adding a Spider Rider spear head wasn't much of a leap.

Bottom half - banner bearer. Top half - musician on foot. With club replaced for spear.

A former musician, swapped his horn for a spear.
Times are hard for the struggling artist.

Time to get painting. Which just leaves me the problem of what I'm going to do with all these wild boar...

  1. Nice!

Did you mean a sad inditement, or were you really forlornly tempted?

  2. So that's why none of the bitz sites have any boars left. ...Boar-hoarder!

    1. If you're looking, Hoard O Bitz have stacks of boars at a fairly reasonable price (or at least they're priced in dollars, which obfuscates how much you're actually spending) - they've just re-upped after a certain customer cleaned them out.

You have to buy them in groups of five, not individually - which isn't a problem for me - I've acquired some of the old metal Orc boar boys, so the Waaagh! leadpile grows...

    2. But at almost 23 USD inc shipping for 5, it's almost the same price buying a new sealed box from GW!

    3. For just five boars - yes, you'd be better off with the box set (the savage one has some lovely extras). You'd have to order at least 15 to offset the shipping rate (and maybe the exchange rate was better last year - I'm sure I worked it out as being ahead of the deal).
